> Eyes in the trees
Day 139 - Tues 16 Feb - 13,018km, Lope National Park, Gabon
Suffering the effects of a long day in the sun yesterday including some acute chafing to sensitive areas I took the morning off to do some washing, go for a run and sit down with Bertha to try and resolve a few issues. Setting off at lunch she continued to make complaints which I chose to ignore, instead concentrating on trying to spot herds of buffalo or antelope in the National Park’s beautiful surroundings. Although I didn’t see much along the empty dirt road I was fully aware that my progress was being closely followed from the canopy by various species of monkey which in the absence of people became my new roadside hecklers. Setting up my tent deep in the rainforest I’m pretty sure I just heard chimps calling nearby, although the continual insect harassment is starting to test my sanity! Anyway time to enjoy some insect supplemented smash and sardines cooked over a bush fire.
