> Meeting Re-Cycle partners
Day 101, 9671km, Dadowa, Ghana
Unfortunately Re-Cycle’s shipment of bicycles waiting to be unloaded in Accra harbour still hadn’t received clearance today, leaving me no choice but to hit the road again after spending the morning with the partner recipient, the Village Bicycle Project (‘VBP’). It was great to hear about how the VBP distributes the bikes to local communities across Ghana through vocational work shops that teach locals essential bike maintenance skills and gives them a sense of ownership. I then had to dodge and weave my way through Accra’s lethal traffic with the help of my little pink horn which sounds uncannily like the local ice cream carts & therefore only succeeds in attracting hungry kids! Having negotiated the dust, pollution, oppressive heat, kids and lunatic drivers and weathered my first rains since Spain, I am now visiting a new partner project being founded in Dodowa, which hopefully some of the proceeds of my tri4africa fund raising may help to support. Welcomed like royalty, I have been made to feel like part of the family and told all about the charity’s admirable plans for the future.
