> Romance on the road
Day 186 – Sun 4 April - 15,420km, Porto Amboim, Angola
Just as I would hope for on any romantic break with your girlfriend, our nights have been intensely intimate, hot and sweaty affairs with little sleep, lots of groaning and emotions running high! Unfortunately however romance couldn’t be further from the cause as we try to cope with sharing a one man tent in incredibly hot , humid conditions with inadequate padding and mosquitoes queuing up to bite one’s limbs the second they inevitably touch the side. Sleep deprived, and reaching the end of our camping tethers, we were therefore on the verge of splashing out on one of Angola’s few and very expensive hotels, when we had an unbelievable stroke of luck and were offered a room for the night by some Dutch oil workers. With air conditioning, a cold shower and an incredibly comfy bed, romance may for once have a role to play in how much sleep we have tonight! In the absence of Easter eggs, we’ve just treated ourselves to some compound chocolate, whatever that may be. All I know is that it tastes very similar to dog drops, for those who have had the pleasure of sampling them. Happy Easter everyone!
