> Tsetse torture
Day 171 - Sat 20 Mar - 15,022km, Barra do Dande, Angola
I couldn't have asked for a better start to the day having saved a bit of last night's malt loaf for breakie. However, things rapidly turned into a nightmare as the tsetse flies became active and were drawn to the smell of an extremely ripe cyclist. Yesterday's tactics of wearing two t-shirts failed to protect my already peppered back against the unbelievably persistent swarms and I had to resort to wearing my rain jacket. Sweating profusely as a result I was harrarsed to the point of a breakdown even when on the move. Battling on along a horrendous dirt and broken tar road, matters were made worse by my chain frequently coming off. Luckily late this afternoon I finally hit tar, although the ominous head winds persist, it's just a shame the tsetse don't seem to notice. Camping in a village again the chief has just made me move everything to another house because he wants to spend the night with his other wife!
