Day 65 – Friday 4 Dec 2009 - 6770 km Just short of Sandare, Mali

For the 2nd day in a row strong head winds have reduced my average riding speed to 15-16kph and meant another long day in the saddle to rack up a decent distance. With some essential areas suffering from acute numbness I’ve had to double up on cycling shorts and opt for the paved route to Bamako! Much more sparsely populated than Senegal, Mali is beautiful to cycle through with far more vegetation and wildlife, it’s also nice to not have “touba” – white man/tourist screamed at me quite so incessantly from every direction! Ray Mears style, I’ve found a beautiful spot to camp in the hills and I am cooking over a fire having just had a refreshing bush shower – this is the life!
